# Configuration and scripts

1. Identify shell and launch mode. Inspect only needed `$nu` paths, including `loginshell-path`, `vendor-autoload-dirs`, and `user-autoload-dirs`.
2. Trace loaded files and generators before editing startup warnings; fix the owner, not generated output.
3. Check `help source`, `help use`, and `help run` before changing invocation. They are not interchangeable with `nu script.nu`.
4. Treat `$ans` as REPL state, not a script result store. Preserve typed signatures and error paths.
