tmux manual validation

Quick smoke

tmux source-file tmux/tmux.conf
tmux show -gqv extended-keys # on
tmux show -gqv extended-keys-format # csi-u
tmux -f tmux/tmux.conf new-session -d -s pi-tmux-check true
tmux kill-session -t pi-tmux-check
bash -n tmux/session.sh
java bootstripper.java check

Native feel checks

Inside tmux:

  1. Ctrl-Space r reloads and shows tmux reloaded.
  2. Ctrl-Space ? opens help popup.
  3. Ctrl-Space e opens tmux.conf in Neovim popup.
  4. Ctrl-Space d opens fzf project/session switcher.
  5. Ctrl-Space v, Ctrl-Space s split panes in current dir.
  6. Ctrl-Space h/j/k/l moves pane focus; repeated h/j/k/l keeps moving briefly.
  7. Ctrl-Space H/J/K/L resizes panes.
  8. Ctrl-Space q shows pane numbers; typing a number jumps pane.
  9. Ctrl-Space x kills pane. q must not kill panes.
  10. Ctrl-Space [ enters vi copy mode; v selects; y copies to system clipboard.
  11. In Pi lists, mouse wheel moves selection up/down.
  12. In Neovim, Alt-h/l still swaps parameters; tmux must not steal it.

Visual checks

Expected:

  • Active pane border: bold magenta.
  • Active border label: █ ACTIVE # █.
  • Inactive pane defaults: dim grey on near-black.
  • Status right: me@desktop HH:MM.
  • Prefix warning appears while prefix is armed.
  • Pane/resize key-table name appears while those modes are active.

Known tmux limit:

  • tmux can dim only terminal default fg/bg. TUIs that paint explicit ANSI colors may not visually dim.

Screenshot notes

Niri screenshot command:

niri msg action focus-window --id 71
# target client from `tmux list-clients`; currently /dev/pts/3
tmux display-panes -t /dev/pts/3 -d 10000
niri msg action screenshot-window --path /tmp/pi-tmux-final-window.png --show-pointer false

Current harness limitation:

  • niri screenshot-screen captures focused screen, not necessarily the tmux client targeted by tmux -t agent_fight.
  • Use manual focused-terminal screenshot when verifying the exact active badge.
